Have this handy when you call

  • Your insurance card
  • Your current height and weight
  • Whether you have had any previous abdominal or bariatric surgery
  • Whether you are a new patient — first visits are always in the office

Existing patients

Call the office for prescription questions, appointment changes, or post-operative concerns. After hours, call the same number and follow the voice prompts for urgent matters.

Please do not email medical details. Email is not a secure channel for protected health information. Use it for general questions only, and bring your history to your appointment where it can be handled properly.

What happens when you call

You will speak to a person, not a menu. They will ask a few basics — roughly what you weigh, your height, whether you have had any previous abdominal or bariatric surgery, and which insurance you carry — and then find you a consultation slot. That call usually takes five minutes.

Before the visit we verify your benefits, so that by the time you sit down we can tell you what your plan requires rather than guessing. If your plan will not cover surgery, or requires a facility we do not use, you will hear that at the start rather than three months in.

New patients

You do not generally need a referral to make an appointment, though some plans require one for coverage. Bring a current medication list, any records from previous abdominal surgery if you have them, and your questions written down. Consultations run a full hour, one-on-one with Dr. Geller. Existing patients

Call the office for prescription refills, appointment changes, lab results, or post-operative concerns. After hours, call the same number and follow the voice prompts — Dr. Geller is reachable for urgent matters when the office is closed. For anything that cannot wait, go to your nearest emergency department, and tell them what operation you have had.

New, severe abdominal pain after a gastric bypass is never something to wait out. Call.

Finding the office

We are in the UofL Medical Center Northeast building on Terra Crossing Boulevard, just off the Old Henry Road exit of the Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265), in eastern Jefferson County. Parking is free and on the surface, and the entrance is step-free. Suite 375.

Surgery itself is performed at PMC Regional Hospital in New Albany, Indiana — about fifteen minutes across the river. More about where operations are done →

Who we see

Dr. Geller is licensed in Kentucky and Indiana, and the office is in Louisville. Living somewhere else does not rule you out — patients travel here from well beyond both states, and are welcome to.

Every first visit is in the office, wherever you are travelling from. There is no substitute for meeting you and examining you before any plan is made.

Video visits are different. Telemedicine is regulated by the state you are physically located in at the moment of the appointment, not the state you live in, so you must be physically present in Kentucky or Indiana during any video visit. That applies wherever your home address is. More about telehealth visits →
